Whatever ๐จ๐ฆ biz wants, it now demands 2x louder, cuz ofโฆTrump! Goldy Hyder would restrict strikes & uncap oil sands pollution as insurance against Trump tariffs. But there's no connection between those things! Get ready ๐จ๐ฆ: Trumpism is contagious #cdnpoli
Inflation is within-target-zone and falling, yet RBA won't cut rates. Other central banks are cutting quickly, but the RBA's perverse ideological inflexibility is amplifying the pain felt by working people. Our @JimboStanford explains for @TheNewDailyAu: https://www.thenewdaily.com.au/finance/2024/11/06/rba-missing-in-action-rates
Other countries have already had multiple rate cuts (3 or 4 in some cases). The RBA says it won't cut until its "trimmed mean" measure is "sustainably" at 2.5%, which might not happen for another year. But trimmed mean is NOT its statutory target, and Australians can't wait.
What does artificial intelligence mean for jobs, workersโ rights, privacy, union activity, and more? Will proposed regulation be good enough to guarantee "safe and responsible AI"?

Here's the trailer for 'Having a Say at Your Job': https://youtu.be/40fXR7wVx_U?si=NqMDx_7_1sFWSOOS. Using the amazing animation of Tony Biddle at Perfect World Design, and production from @SteveHawkinsYVR, it shows how a strong union brings both fairness and democracy to day-to-day worklife. /3
For other CLiFF screenings (both in-person and virtual), see the festival site: https://labourfilms.ca/watch/?cmid=3a39839e-3527-4478-9eb2-d7984d73d390. Many thanks to the passionate volunteers who make this festival possible! ๐โ /3
Getting gouged for a hotel room in Toronto this week? It's not just supply-and-demand. Price fixing algorithms are at work in many industries, inflating both prices and profits. Competition authorities need to fight back. My take for @TorontoStar:

There are no secret memos, no hushed conversations, writes Jim Stanford. Where corporate collusion is concerned, there...

Economists of all political persuasions are rightly consumed with the wide range of serious risks facing ๐จ๐ฆ's economy from Trump policies: tariffs, mass deportations, inflation, interest rates, FX & more. Meanwhile, Parliament delivers hot takes like this. God help us. #cdnecon
A good read from @reggcohn on how Canada's unions (and their new leaders) are finding new ways to build collective power: in the workplace, at the bargaining table, and in society. #canlab
